Cycling: WUCA Attempt by Preeti Doshi Maske
“Mainly Girls, if they decide, they can do anything!” – Preeti
We had the privilege of talking to Preeti Doshi Maske, who’s quite possibly a role model for many out there. She is an entrepreneur, a mother of 2 teenagers & a housewife. But most importantly, she’s an avid cyclist, marathoner, a triathlete and basically an all-out sports enthusiast, who loves to take up new challenges to test her limits.
Having played hockey for India at the national level during her school days, Preeti began her running & cycling journey when she was around 40 years old as a serious recreational athlete. She completed Kashmir to Kanyakumari Cycling Expedition in 17 days 17 hours, cycling 3773 Kms, achieving a Group World record for the fastest completion. She then finished the Golden Quadrilateral, 6000 km cycling as Guinness. Record in 24days & 6 hours covering East West North South India (Mumbai-Chennai-Kolkata-Delhi -Mumbai) on 23rd March 2021.
At 45 years old now, she is attempting the WUCA, or World UltraCycling Association record for solo cycling at a high altitude from Leh to Manali in India, covering a distance of approx. 480 kms in around 60 hours, beginning on the 22nd June 2022. She is riding a Polygon cycle & wearing a Garmin watch during this time, and is dedicating this ride to the BRO, or Border Roads Organisation, Indian Army, who are supporting her in her journey.
We wish her the best. Listen to her journey in her own words, and enjoy watching the video interview.
